Many of us will know how difficult it is to carry out everyday tasks when suffering from back pain. It is no different for our horses except they cannot always express when they are suffering from aches and pains. Horses were never designed to carry a rider but the modern day horse is expected to perform at high standards and in various disciplines. Most horses cope with their lifestyle very well but they can often suffer from musculoskeletal discomfort. It is not just competition horses that suffer from pain, tension and stiffness; whatever the age of your animal, whether they are retired or in ridden work, McTimoney and Sports Massage can be used to allow them to work at the best of their physical ability with ease, comfort and suppleness.

Initially minor issues can go unnoticed as the horse adapts and compensates but these problems can accumulate and become chronic over time, leading to muscular tension and imbalances in other areas and even noticeable gait alteration.

In recent years complementary therapy has played a vital role in keeping our animals comfortable and confident, therefore improving their way of going and work ethic. McTimoney is a gentle, holistic technique used to realign the skeletal system promoting symmetry and improved muscle/nerve function. Incorporating Sports Massage relieves residual muscle spasm and tension, and flexibility is improved through the use of stretching exercises.
